TISCA Water Polo 50th Anniversary/TISCA Clinic

Age Group, Announcements, Development, High School
The 2021-2022 school year is here, and it is a very exciting time for TISCA Water Polo. This season marks our 50th season of TISCA Water Polo and we are excited for what this season brings as we head towards UIL status. Our season starts with a very exciting TISCA Conference September 17-19 in Austin. TISCA Water Polo hopes to have a strong number of current and future water polo coaches in attendance at the conference. At the conference, our groups focus will be preparing for the future of water polo in Texas as we get ready for UIL Water Polo in the fall of 2022. This will be a great opportunity for coaches to get a good grasp on the technical, tactical, and administrative aspects of water polo. Our speakers will address all these topics and I hope all TISCA members take advantage of this opportunity. Below is a list of the TISCA Water Polo speakers and topics. Also, please consider joining our TISCA Water Polo Sports You group. Sports You is a great tool and will be very helpful this incoming year and will help our group share ideas and build our water polo community. Please take advantage of this resource. To join the group please download the SportsYou app and put in the code sent via email.
We are very excited to see veteran water polo coaches and new water polo coaches at TISCA. See you there!
TISCA Water Polo Speakers and Topics
  1. TISCA Water Polo Reps (Scott Slay, Allie Hill, Aubrey Estes, Troy Goddard, Jeff Chandler)- Will speak Friday during the Water Polo General Meeting. Each rep will cover a topic at the General Meeting.
  2. Guy Baker (Friday & Saturday talks)- Coach Baker is our guest speaker for TISCA Water Polo this year and the former program for the USA Women’s National Team program. During his time with the USA Women’s National team, he was the head coach for the 2000, 2004, and 2008 Olympic teams. Coach Baker is very good at teaching water polo to a 20-year veteran coach or someone who learned about the game 5 seconds ago. As we begin this journey towards UIL status I cannot think of a better speaker for our TISCA Group. During his talks Coach Baker will cover important technical and tactical water polo skills, he will also talk about how to get the most out of your athletes.
  3. Scott Slay/Troy Goddard (Saturday talk)- Building and Aquatics Program (Swim/Dive/Water Polo). How to make it all work together. This talk will include Q&A as many swim coaches have asked how to build aquatics programs with sports overlapping.
  4. Sabrina Carlile/Chris Cullen (Saturday talk)- Starting a Water Polo program from scratch. What will you need? Where do I get athletes? What is the best way to improve as a coach? Where do I find coaching resources? How do you host games and tournaments?
